Pottery and Tableware by Stacey Shulman

About Stacey Shulman

A native of Atlanta, Stacey Beth Shulman jokes that she first discovered her love of pottery in kindergarten, when the class made the letters of the alphabet out of smelly green modeling clay. Today she creates functional, low fired tableware and decorative items in her studio in Decatur, Georgia.

Memories of holiday celebrations inspire Stacey to craft casual, colorful serving dishes and vases. “My mother always uses handmade platters when she is entertaining,” she says. “I love making things that add to the festive atmosphere.”

When she is not in the studio, Stacey uses her experience to teach art and creative expression to older adults and people with disabilities, embodying her belief that art is a tool for healing the spirit of both the artist and the audience. Her work can be seen various festivals and galleries around the Atlanta area.

“All of the themes that I have painted have a thought or story behind them, relating to happiness, personal growth, and self acceptance. One of my most popular designs is the fish motif, created in tribute to my father, Harvey Shulman.”

“Stealing away to the lake anytime he could, my dad found his bliss while fishing. When he was by the water, my father was able to get away from the stress of the everyday world. As I attempt to find the perfect balance in my own life, I find that I am drawn more and more to creating in my studio. It has become the same kind of place for me that my dad found on his boat.”

“Today I honor my father’s memory by creating tableware and decorative items that convey the sense of delight I feel when I follow my own path to happiness, working in clay. Thank you, the viewer, for sharing this part of my journey.”
